Burnishing
WITH DIAMOND COATED BALL ENDS
Lower costs – shorter processing times – highest quality
The development of the bushless conrod is just one of a range of recent examples of the ongoing quest to minimise costs. However, the absence of the bushing means that the surface of the small conrod eye has to meet very high quality requirements – which can be met using micro burnishing.
Advantages of burnishing:
- Reduces the friction between the small piston pin bore and the piston pin
- No interference from bores that interrupt the surface
- Significant cost saving, as there is no bushing and no need for a bushing fitting unit
- Makes it possible to reduce the piston and connecting rod’s cross sections and their weight
- Produces an extremely high quality finish with an average roughness depth of 1 μm
- Improves the roundness of precision-turned profiles
- Can be automated
- No risk of damage to the previously produced elliptical and/or trumpet contours
- Can be shortened as a process by use of a combination tool
- Suitable for use for parallel, trapezoidal and stepped connecting rods
